Illamasqua is about self-expression. The name combines the words ‘illusion’ and ‘masquerade’ and this idea is central to everything the brand does.
Their core inspiration comes from the theatre, specifically the 1920s Berlin theatre scene. Under pressure from Hollywood, the industry needed to innovate and new demands were being placed on makeup; it had to look incredible under lights, in person, close up and far away, and it had to last.
